Coach Bolton is the antagonist in Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette's production of Disney's High School Musical according to Steve Scherer, who plays the part.
"He wants his son focused on just athletics, but there's more to life than that. You have this well-rounded kid in his son, Troy, and Coach Bolton discovers that just a little later than Troy discovers it," Steve said.
He auditioned for the show because he likes to be around young people, saying they make him feel young. He also likes the inherent message of the show.
"These kids at East High School get along, and I think that's true with this entire generation. And this cast has gotten along really well together. They have theme days and theme parties; it has been really fun to be around this group," he said.
Disney's High School Musical will be performed July 11-12, 18-19, 2008 at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater, located on State Road 43 North.
