Ryan Evans is vice president of the East High Scool Drama Club, second in command only to his fraternal twin, Sharpay. Ryan is played by David Downing in Civic Theatre's production of Disney's High School Musical.
David explained that Ryan is a classic example of a person who needs to belong, in this case with the Drama Club clique and, by extension, his sister.
"Ryan enjoys and loves Sharpay, but gets very irritated by her. She has moments of sincerity and he wants to have a moment of bonding, but she shuts the door. He always seems to be left out in the cold," David said.
"He's really trying to find his own voice. He's tired of being in Sharpay's shadow; he wants to make a name for himself not only in the theatre, but also among the student body. He wants to show that he has his own voice, views and personality.'"
David concluded by describing what the audience will experience at the performances.
"The audience will see what the word 'fabulous' means. The show is full of energy; all of the people working on stage and off have put in countless hours of work. The cast is excited to put on the show: The audience will be able to tell that through our singing, dancing and acting. We all have a great time performing and there some exciting features. People who are fans of High School Musical will see some new things, but they'll also hear their favorite songs like 'Status Quo' and 'We're All In This Together.'"
Disney's High School Musical will be performed July 11-12, 18-19, 2008 at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater, located on State Road 43 North.
