Troy Bolton is the playmaker of the East High School Wildcats basketball team and the son of the head coach. He also has a secret passion for singing that he doesn’t think his friends or teammates will understand.
Troy is played by Cody Butcher in Civic Theatre's production of Disney's High School Musical.
"Troy starts as kind of quiet, and he’s got a secret: He wants to be in the musical. The climax is when he blows up at his dad and says, ‘You know what? I’m going to audition, I don’t care what you say.’ Troy's dad wants Troy to live out the goals he had as a teenager: to be a star basketball player. Troy's dad is living through Troy. But Troy breaks out of that and becomes his own person,” Cody explained.
He has enjoyed being able to bond with the other actors in the cast; they created a social committee and held theme days during the rehearsals.
“One of the highlights is that I get along with absolutely everyone. Everyone is so nice, and we’re having fun together,” he explained.
He concluded by describing what audiences will experience during the shows.
"They will see a lot of amazing dancing — I've been really impressed by the choreography — and some great singing and acting,” Cody said.
Disney's High School Musical will be performed July 11-12, 18-19, 2008 at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater, located on State Road 43 North.
