A radio play performance of The Time Machine this Saturday at 8 p.m.

The first staged reading of the 2008-2009 season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette will be held Saturday, August 16, at 8 p.m. at the Monon Depot Theatre in downtown Lafayette.

The Time Machine
will be performed by actors with script in hand alongside a radio sound foley artist who will produce sound effects. Arliss Jeffries directs the cast; the script for the radio drama was adapted by John de Lancie from a script by Nat Segaloff. The performance is produced as part of the 2008 One Great Read program.

The Time Machine tells the story of a Victorian-era scientist and inventor who has created a working time machine. He travels forward in time to discover the human race has split into two distinct races: the Eloi, who live above ground, and the Morlocks, who live below. The traveler becomes attached to Weena, an Eloi girl, and risks his life to save her when the Morlocks attack. The traveler makes discoveries that will change his thoughts about his own era and the fate of humanity.

Tickets are available at the Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette box office the night of the performance. Audience members are encouraged to pay what they can in order to defray production costs. To learn more about the performance, please call 765-423-PLAY (7529) or visit www.lafcivic.org.
