Fall 2008 Acting Classes from Civic Youth Theatre

Civic Youth Director Melanie R. Buchanan will be teaching four classes in the Fall 2008 Acting Classes schedule: Acting for Teenagers, Applause! Applause! Applause!, Improvisation for the Theatre and Exploring the Theatre.

Acting for Teenagers is for students in Grade 6 and above. Classes began September 11 and run through November 20, with class time being 4:30-5:45 p.m. every Thursday.

Students in the class learn about character development and script analysis through movement, games and acting exercises. The 11-week-long program concludes with a one-act production during the evening of the last week of class.

The cost of the class for a Civic Friend is $100, and $120 for a Non-Member.

Applause! Applause! Applause! is for students in Grade 4 and Grade 5. Classes begin September 22 and continue through October 27, with class time being 4:30-5:30 p.m. every Monday.

This class focuses on character and vocal development. Students will understand the basics of acting and auditioning, preparing them for auditioning for one of the Civic Youth Theatre season productions. The class concludes with a share day during which students perform short scenes for family and friends on the last day of class.

The cost of the class for a Civic Friend is $60, and $65 for a Non-Member.

Melanie comes to Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette from Chicago, where she studied graduate acting at DePaul University. She has a theatre degree from Creighton University and has worked in Los Angeles. Melanie, who has lived all over the world with her family, has a wealth of experience in musical theatre, improv and acting.
