Fall 2008 Acting Classes from Civic Youth Theatre

Melanie R. Buchanan

Civic Youth Director Melanie R. Buchanan will be teaching four classes in the Fall 2008 Acting Classes schedule: Acting for Teenagers, Applause! Applause! Applause!, Exploring the Theatre and Improvisation for the Theatre.

Exploring the Theatre is for students in Grade 1, Grade 2 or Grade 3. Classes begin September 23 and run through October 28, with class time being 4:30-5:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

Students will learn to take their imagination from they use in the everyday world and use it in the theatre. They will learn basic acting techniques and characterization, using skits and games. The final day of class will be a share day during which parents are invited to see the skills their child has developed during the six-week-long program.

Improvisation for the Theatre is for students in Grade 6 and above. Classes begin September 26 and continue through October 29, with class time being 4:30-5:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

Students will learn about improvisation as an acting technique to build characters, set up environments and think quickly on their feet. The class will conclude with a show for family and friends. This class is limited 10 students.

The cost of these classes for a Civic Friend is $60, and $65 for a Non-Member.
