Sara Mummey plays Angela, a character whom she says is different from other roles she has portrayed, such as ingénues in Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals.
"Angela is in her mid-30s, a mother of six children and lives in a double-wide trailer in Waxahachie, Texas. She is married to Bubba, who drives a beer truck for Lone Star Beer," Sara said.
Sara explained why audiences will enjoy Honky Tonk Angels.
"People will know a lot of the songs, and there are many comedic moments especially in the second act. People will be entertained and they will be able to identify with the characters," she said.
The show opens Friday, September 12, and runs consecutive weekends through Sunday, September 28, at the Monon Depot Theatre in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 8 p.m. Sunday afternoon matinees begin at 2:30 p.m. There will be an additional performance on Thursday, September 25, at 8 p.m. Tickets for adults are $15, while youth tickets cost $10 apiece.
