In The Wings: Honky Tonk Angels. Meet Sue Ellen.

Honky Tonk Angels is the first show in the 2008-2009 Mainstage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. It tells the story of three women who travel to Nashville to pursue their singing dreams.

Cathy Russell plays Sue Ellen, whom she called a "citified country girl" working in Los Angeles.

"Sue Ellen doesn't have a great relationship with her mother and she's been divorced twice. She's tired of being harassed by her boss, so she leaves L.A. to pursue her dream of singing," Cathy said.

Cathy explained why she likes shows with small casts, like Honky Tonk Angels.

"I think it helps cast members achieve tighter harmonies and helps them get to know one another better," she said.

The show opens Friday, September 12, and runs consecutive weekends through Sunday, September 28, at the Monon Depot Theatre in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 8 p.m. Sunday afternoon matinees begin at 2:30 p.m. There will be an additional performance on Thursday, September 25, at 8 p.m. Tickets for adults are $15, while youth tickets cost $10 apiece.
