In the Wings: The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fair(l)y (Stoopid) Tales. Meet Melanie R. Buchanan and Laurie Russell, the directors.

Melanie R. Buchanan (top) and Laurie Russell direct The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fair(l)y Stoopid Tales, a musical based on the book of the same name by Jon Scieszka. It is the final production of the 2008-2009 Civic Youth Theatre Season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette.

They began by describing the tone of the show.

"The show is really funny. There's a lot of schtick and silliness," Laurie said. "Although it's a musical, the show is more about storytelling through dialogue while the music connects scenes together."

"The show is bizarre, funny and light," Melanie said.

They concluded by describing what audiences will take away with them after a performance.

"The audience will have a good laugh during the show," Laurie said. "This is a show for the entire family, including younger children."

Melanie added, "The audience will walk away laughing. That's what we're focusing on."

The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fair(l)y Stoopid Tales opens Friday, June 5 and runs through June 7. The Friday and Saturday evening shows begin at 7:00 p.m.; the Sunday afternoon show begins at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth.
