In the Wings: The Mousetrap. Meet Kate Martin.
Kate Martin plays Mollie Ralston in The Mousetrap, the first production of the 2009-2010 MainStage Season of Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by Agatha Christie.
Kate explained why she chose to audition for the show.
"I've done quite a few plays in college, but never a murder mystery," she said. "I love Agatha Christie's stories, so I thought being in this show would be fun."
Mollie and Giles, her husband, have opened a guest house, and at the beginning of the play all the guests arrive.
"Mollie is having the worst day of her life," Kate said. "She is running out of food, her guests are odd, there's a snowstorm going on, she finds a murder victim and then a police investigator arrives on the scene. It's a very difficult day for her."
Kate said that audiences for The Mousetrap will remember the unique characters.
"They are all so different from one another," she said. "Throughout the course of the play, the audience can believe that any of the characters is the murderer. When the murderer is revealed at the end, the shock also will be something the audience remembers."
The Mousetrap runs three consecutive weekends from September 4-20 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre in downtown Lafayette. Shows on Friday and Saturday evenings begin at 8:00 p.m.; shows on Sunday afternoons begin at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for youth age 18 and under.
