"Why wasn't I cast?!": 10 possible reasons from communitytheater.org

As the 2009-2010 season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette picks up steam and 15 separate theatrical productions are mounted, a large number of actors will audition for shows. Unfortunately not all of them will be cast.

In the communitytheater.org article "The Top 10 Reasons You Didn't Get Cast," Chris Polo offers reasonable explanations why a director may choose not to cast an actor in a show. Included among them are:

  • Another actor interpreted the role better
  • Another actor was better prepared to audition
  • Another actor was better suited for a role
Perhaps more importantly than suggesting reasons why actors aren't cast in shows, Polo offers ideas in the article about how actors can counteract them.

You can read the full article here.

People who are interested in learning further audition tips may want to attend the September 5 audition workshop led by Melanie R. Buchanan, Laurie Russell and Kate Walker. All three have extensive experience as directors who have held numerous auditions at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The two-hour workshop covers basic topics, such as what an actor should wear to auditions, as well as advanced topics, such choosing appropriate monologues and songs, and doing a cold reading. The cost is $20.00, and space is limited. Call 765-423-7529 to register.
