In the Wings: Snow White. Meet Ariel Laukins.

Ariel Laukins plays Dopey in Snow White, the third production of the 2009-2010 Civic Youth Theatre season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by J. Michael Straczynski.

Ariel is making her acting debut with Civic Theatre in this production, although she has been involved with other shows.

"I always have been interested in acting but have only been on technical crews so far," she said. "I just felt confident that I could be an actor in a show this time."

Ariel said Dopey is different in this version than in the Walt Disney movie.

"Dopey speaks in this version and he gets to talk to the audience sometimes," she said. "Dopey is very stupid and he doesn't understand what people around him are talking about, but he understands other things. He also becomes sad when Snow White dies."

Ariel suggested two parts of the play that the audience will enjoy.

"The audience will remember the scene with the cherries," she said. "And when Snow White comes back to life, it's very dramatic. The audience will remember that."

Snow White runs from Friday, February 26 to Sunday, February 28 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre in downtown Lafayette. Shows on Friday and Saturday evenings begin at 7:00 p.m., and the show on Sunday afternoon begins at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth age 18 and under.
