In the Wings: Snow White. Meet Missy Freels, the director.

Missy Freels directs Snow White, the third production of the 2009-2010 Civic Youth Theatre season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by J. Michael Straczynski.

Missy makes her directing debut with this production.

"I wanted to direct something I knew and loved, and it had to be fun," she said. "Directing Snow White has been a tremendous experience so far. It has been great working with these 17 kids in the cast."

Missy said the plot of Straczynski's script differs from the Walt Disney movie version in a number of ways.

"Snow White, the Prince, the seven dwarfs and the Queen are still in the script," she said. "In this version, however, there are four attempts on Snow White's life. The Queen sends the Prince to kill her. She also turns herself into the Princess, the Old Woman and the Witch to kill Snow White."

Missy concluded by suggesting what an audience will most remember about the production.

"The script isn't as dark and scary as the movie; this version is fun. There are a lot of times the audience is going to giggle," she said. "The audience will walk away thinking, 'That really made me laugh.'"

Snow White runs from Friday, February 26 to Sunday, February 28 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre in downtown Lafayette. Shows on Friday and Saturday evenings begin at 7:00 p.m., and the show on Sunday afternoon begins at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth age 18 and under.
