In the Wings: Cabaret. Meet Dan Miller.

Dan Miller plays Herr Schultz in Cabaret, the final production of the 2009-2010 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The book is by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

Cabaret represents Dan's first production with Civic Theatre in a while, having returned to the area in January after being away more than 10 years.

Dan described Herr Schultz as a pivot point for the show, saying that other characters' responses to him reflect the ugliness that is on the rise in Berlin in 1929.

"He is becoming familiar with Fräulein Schneider," he said. "She is looking at the environment, which is becoming more and more anti-Semitic, and she is wondering how that relationship will play out for her and what ramifications it holds for her."

Dan said Cabaret provides a lot of political commentary, but noted the show still has an uplifting musical spirit thanks to the performers.

"This is an extraordinary ensemble cast," he said. "Everyone from the chorus to the two leads is a strong performer."

Cabaret runs three consecutive weekends from Friday, May 7 through Sunday, May 23 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday evening shows begin at 8:00 p.m.; Sunday afternoon matinees begin at 2:30 p.m. There also will be a performance Thursday, May 20 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for adults are $15; tickets for youth age 18 and under are $10.
