Civic Theatre is accepting applications for art exhibits in The Grant Fredericks Gallery

Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette is accepting applications for 2-dimensional hanging art exhibits in The Grant Fredericks Gallery at the historic Monon Depot Theatre. There are calendar dates to accommodate five to six exhibits in the 2010-2011 season.

The purpose of The Grant Fredericks Gallery is to provide space for works of art that are of community interest, are appropriate for the diverse range of Civic patrons and participants, and will enhance the theatre's environment. The quality of work and appropriateness of the exhibit for the multi-use space and the audience will be considered before any exhibit is accepted.

The gallery houses a variety of activities, and is not used exclusively as visual art exhibition space. Unfortunately, the gallery cannot accommodate 3-dimensional work.

To apply for an exhibit in The Grant Fredericks Gallery, artists are asked to mail the following to Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette; ATTN: Gallery Director; 313 N. 5th Street; Lafayette, IN 47901:

  • 1. A typed (maximum two pages) description of the exhibition and any restrictions or preferences as to the calendar dates.
  • 2. Between five and ten examples of the art to be included in the exhibit, submitted either as photographs or on a CD.
  • 3. A résumé of the artist or exhibition coordinator.
  • 4. A self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of the slides or photos, and for exhibition notification.

Submitting an application does not guarantee an exhibition in The Grant Fredericks Gallery.

Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette does not charge artists a gallery fee and provides insurance coverage.

Artists may have a reception in The Grant Fredericks Gallery to publicize the exhibit, although the date and time must be coordinated with the Civic Theatre office through Gallery Director Alice Schwind. The artists will be responsible for invitations, set-up, refreshments and clean-up afterward. Artists will be accountable for additional cleaning or repair needed after the reception.

Sales of the artwork will be encouraged, with checks made payable to Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. All sales will be subject to a 20 percent commission, with all artwork remaining in the exhibition until the closing date, unless there are unusual circumstances.
