Announcing auditions: The Taffetas

Audition dates have been set for The Taffetas, the first production in Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette's 2010-2011 MainStage season. Auditions will be held 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 18 and Monday, July 19 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette.

Director Melanie R. Buchanan seeks to cast four young women. Everyone auditioning is asked to prepare a 1950s-style song, both verse and chorus. No appointments are necessary.

It's 1950-something, and Kaye, Peggy, Cheryl and Donna - four singing sisters from Muncie, Indiana - are making their national television singing debut. "Spotlight on Music," a fictitious weekly 1950s television show on the real-life Dumont Television Network, sets the framework for an evening of some of the greatest hits of the 1950s. A tribute to the girl groups of the 1950s, the show pays tribute to the sounds of The McGuire Sisters, The Fontane Sisters and The Chordettes. Opening Off-Broadway, The Taffetas made nostalgia what it is today! Spend an hour and a half with these talented sisters and their three-piece band and remember what Sunday night television was like on your 12-inch black-and-white screen!

The Taffetas will open Friday, September 10 and run three consecutive weekends through Sunday, September 26.
