In the Wings: Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times. Meet Peg Black.

Peg Black plays Velma in Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times, an original musical with music and lyrics by Lynn Lupold and book by Don Seybold. It will make its world premiere at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette.

Peg said she always enjoys the process of auditioning because it allows her to pretend to be anyone she wants to be. When she auditioned for Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times, Peg was unsure if she would be cast because almost everyone else who attended auditions was in their 30s or younger.

"But I received a call and was told they created a character for me: Velma," she said.

Peg explained that Velma is a cleaning woman who is a very colorful character and sometimes angry.

"Velma is an example in the show of an older love. She shows that just because a person is older, it doesn't mean she is invisible or that love disappears," she said.

Peg concluded by suggesting what the audience will remember about Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times.

"The audience will remember the great music and several fun lines. There are tunes that I can imagine the audience going out of the theater and singing," she said. "And it may make audiences think about love because all different kinds exist in this show."

Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times opens Friday, August 13 and runs through Saturday, August 21 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday afternoon performances begin at 2:30 p.m.
