In the Wings: Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times. Meet Amanda Dunkle.
Amanda Dunkle plays Kate in Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times, an original musical with music and lyrics by Lynn Lupold and book by Don Seybold. It will make its world premiere at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette.
Amanda auditioned for the show because she had connections with several people involved with it.
"Some of my old friends from high school were auditioning. I also knew Lynn and Eric Van Cleave from high school. I had not performed in a while, so I thought being involved in the show would be fun," she said.
Amanda said Kate is a strong, self-confident woman. She is determined to keep trying at things even though it's difficult. She said Kate is hopeful and feels things can still work out in love.
"It's interesting to develop a character that you haven't seen anyone play before," Amanda said. "You have to draw your own impression, some things from your own life and some things you observe. Although it can be a little stressful, it also is a lot of fun. It will be interesting to see when it's over if it's what Lynn and Don had in their minds."
Amanda concluded by suggesting what audiences will remember after seeing a performance of Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times.
"There is a lot of great talent in the show and a lot of great songs, but audiences will see that this is a real genuine work," she said. "It shows what really happens in relationships. They're difficult. Not everything is roses and smiles. You have to work at them. There are a lot of different kinds of relationships and the audience may find something in one of the characters that they can seem in themselves."
Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times opens Friday, August 13 and runs through Saturday, August 21 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday afternoon performances begin at 2:30 p.m.
