In the Wings: Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times. Meet Clay Mabbitt.

Clay Mabbitt plays Frank in Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times, an original musical with music and lyrics by Lynn Lupold and book by Don Seybold. It will make its world premiere at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette.

Clay described Frank as a womanizer.

"To Frank, relationships are a numbers game," he said. "He knows you've got to put yourself out there a lot. You're going to strike out sometimes, but if one out of a thousand girls says yes, that's three times as good as he can pull off."

Clay said he feels a responsibility to others involved in the show when performing.

"Lynn has invested a lot of time into this, and then as people have joined the process - Eric Van Cleave, Kenny Shepard and the performers - you see just how much people are pouring their hearts into this," he said. "It's a fun responsibility to match the level of what they're bringing into it."

Clay concluded by suggesting what the subtitle may mean.

"Technology is changing so fast and it changes how we function as a society," he said. "The show is set in an airport and it's about how transient people are. You're passing people so quickly and you have to fall in love really quickly or it isn't going to happen. It's do or die."

Enter Love: A Musical for Our Times opens Friday, August 13 and runs through Saturday, August 21 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday afternoon performances begin at 2:30 p.m.
