In the Wings: The Taffetas. Meet Amanda Walker.
Amanda Walker plays Donna in The Taffetas, the first production in the 2010-2011 MainStage Season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The musical was conceived by Rick Lewis, with additional material by Arthur Whitelaw. Melanie R. Buchanan is the director and Shellie Johnson is the musical director.
Question: What sets Donna apart from her three sisters?
Amanda Walker: Donna is pretty ditzy. She’s boy crazy and car crazy.
Q: Why did you audition for The Taffetas?
A.W.: I thought it would be a lot of fun to work with Melanie Buchanan again. Also, I found out during You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown that I really like small casts; I thought it would be really good to be in another small cast.
Q: How much did you know about 1950s girls groups before you auditioned?
A.W.: Honestly, I didn’t know much but through the rehearsal process, I started to learn a lot. Now I know quite a bit.
Q: What has been the most enjoyable part about rehearsal?
A.W.: Definitely rehearsing the songs. I really, really enjoy the songs so it’s a lot of fun to sing them over and over again.
Q: What is your favorite song in the show?
A.W.: My favorite is “I’m Sorry,” which was sung by Brenda Lee. I have a lot of fun with it.
Q: Have you ever worn taffeta?
A.W.: I have not, so I’m really looking forward to it.
