In the Wings: Once Upon a Mattress. Meet Jordan Friend.
Jordan Friend plays Sir Harry in Once Upon a Mattress, the second production of the 2010-2011 Civic Youth Theatre season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. Melanie R. Buchanan and Laurie Russell are the directors.
Question: Why did you audition for Once Upon a Mattress?
Jordan Friend: I'm almost 18 and I'm going to age out of Civic Youth Theatre soon. I've worked with Melanie for years, so that was the main goal: to work with her again. And originally I didn't like the show that much, so I wanted to give it another try.
Q: How would you describe Sir Harry?
J.F.: He comes off as innocent in the beginning, but later he shows himself to be a womanizer in a way. He's not the prince everyone thinks he is.
Q: What is Harry's main goal?
J.F.: At the beginning, he seems to focus on his own pleasure and whatever he wants to do. He wants to come off as princely as possible. But later, he realizes he wants the girl more and he changes.
Q: What do you think audiences will most remember about this production?
J.F.: The songs are very catchy. That's probably what they'll most like about the show.
Once Upon a Mattress opens Friday, February 25 and runs through Sunday, February 27 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday afternoon matinees begin at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth age 18 and under.
