In the Wings: Rent. Meet Amanda Reichelt.

Amanda Reichelt plays Maureen in RENT, the first production of the 2011-2012 season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The book, music and lyrics are by Jonathan Larson, based on Giacomo Puccini's La bohème.

Question: Why did you want to be part of RENT?
Amanda Reichelt: I really like the music. Before I saw the show, I listened to the music. I like the lyrics and everything's pretty catchy. I feel like they're singing about something that's real.

Q: How would you describe Maureen?
A.R.: Maureen is self-absorbed, dramatic and she wants to be the center of attention. She wants success, she wants to be known and to have all eyes on her. She wants to get her performance out there so everyone can see her and then she'll keep going with her career.

Q: What do you think an audience will most remember about a performance of RENT?
A.R.: I hope the theme. I hope they'll get that out of it: problems do exist and people try to fix them. People live in the midst of bad times, but you can still have a life. Our characters may seem sad but through all that there's happiness.

RENT will open Thursday, July 14 and run through July 16 at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater, 4449 ST RD 43 N, West Lafayette. Sunday, July 17 has been scheduled as a performance date if there are any rain outs. Performances begin at 9:00 p.m.
