In the Wings: Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Meet Ce-Ce Furtner.

Ce-Ce Furtner plays Stella Mae in Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, the first production of the 2011-2012 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by Ed Graczyk.

Question: Why did you want to be part of Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean?
C.C.F.: I am an accidental thespian to some degree. I've been involved with Civic through my daughters, and I guess it's my turn now.

Q: How would you describe Stella Mae? What are her goals?
C.C.F.: She is bombastic, pushy and loves to laugh. She is coming back to McCarthy, Texas, after being gone for 20 years. She's looking to show off that she's done pretty well for herself. She's got money and she wants to show off and have a good time, she wants to have a laugh.

Q: What do you think an audience will remember most about Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean?
C.C.F.: There's so much emotion going on that it just runs the gamut. It's a no-holds-barred show. I hope they get drawn into the drama between the characters, and there's a lot going on in there.

Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean will open Friday, September 9 and run three consecutive weekends through Sunday, September 25 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday performances begin at 2:30 p.m.
