In the Wings: Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Meet Jane Hoaks.

Jane Hoaks plays Juanita in Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, the first production of the 2011-2012 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by Ed Graczyk.

Question: Why did you want to be part of Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean?
Jane Hoaks: I read the script and I thought, "Oh, I think I could be Juanita. I could carry that off."

Q: How would you describe Juanita? What are her goals?
J.H.: Juanita has been in this little town of McCarthy, Texas her entire life. She grew up here, she married here and managed the Five and Dime from time immemorial. She's watched it go through prosperity to practically a dust bowl. Her main goal is to bring back the girls she helped raise. They all worked with her at one time or another in the Five and Dime and they've been like her children. She's a mother hen.

Q: What do you think an audience will remember most about Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean?
J.H.: Nostalgia. The right age group of the audience will remember James Dean, they'll remember Giant, they'll remember those teenage heartthrobs. They're also going to see that their life wasn't so much different when they were younger, and the dreams they had, and how life ends up. I think they will identify with the things going on.

Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean will open Friday, September 9 and run three consecutive weekends through Sunday, September 25 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday performances begin at 2:30 p.m.
