In the Wings: Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Meet Kate Martin.

Kate Martin plays Joanne in Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, the first production of the 2011-2012 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by Ed Graczyk.

Question: Why did you want to be part of Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean?
Kate Martin: At first I was expecting a honky-tonk corny play, but you read the script and it's very complex. These characters have very real issues. It's not a lighthearted show. It may look like it on the surface but once you get into it, it's pretty meaty.

Q: How would you describe Joanne? What are her goals?
K.M.: Joanne is worldly, sophisticated and confident. Joanne wants to get a bit of revenge. It's half revenge, half clearing the air.

Q: What do you think an audience will remember most about Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean?
K.M.: The relationships. These people's relationships have lasted 20 years - how they've changed and how they've stuck up for one another for two decades is pretty amazing.

Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean will open Friday, September 9 and run three consecutive weekends through Sunday, September 25 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday performances begin at 2:30 p.m.
