In the Wings: Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Meet Thea Strand.

Thea Strand plays Sissy in Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, the first production of the 2011-2012 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by Ed Graczyk.

Question: Why did you want to be part of Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean?
Thea Strand: The draw was the role of Sissy. I love to play brash, bitchy, in-you-face women and those roles don't come around all that often. She's larger than life and fun.

Q: What are Sissy's goals?
T.S.: Sissy's goal is to hide her secret, but once the secret is out her goal becomes for Mona's secret to be out and for everyone to be done with the charade and the fa├žade. She's very "What you see is what you get" and she's been carrying this secret around for a while, which is opposite to how she lives her life.

Q: What do you think an audience will remember most about Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean?
T.S.: The audience will say, "Sissy swore too much." She swears all the tme. They'll go away having related to someone in the show. Any time you get these women ensemble casts - like Steel Magnolias - they'll relate to one of the characters. I hope they'll go away thinking about the dichotomy of public faces versus our personal struggles.

Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean will open Friday, September 9 and run three consecutive weekends through Sunday, September 25 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday performances begin at 2:30 p.m.
