In the Wings: Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Meet Rachel Thibault.

Rachel Thibault plays Edna Louise in Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, the first production of the 2011-2012 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by Ed Graczyk.

Question: Why did you want to be part of Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean?
Rachel Thibault: I wanted to do something other than Chancel Players. I wanted the opportunity to do something a little bit bigger.

Q: How would you describe Edna Louise? What are her goals?
R.T.: Edna Louise is very quiet, very gentle toward the other activities that happen with the other characters. She's very quiet, motherly almost. Everyone takes her as a total dummyhead but when reality kicks in she's really not as stupid as Stella Mae makes her out to be. She's a caretaker - she's pregnant with her seventh child. Her life has always been to make everyone else comfortable. Because of her gentle, calm spirit, everyone feels that. And I think that's why she's taken advantage of a little bit, or the bullying is a little more abusive toward her.

Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean will open Friday, September 9 and run three consecutive weekends through Sunday, September 25 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday performances begin at 2:30 p.m.
