In the Wings: Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. Meet Cody Walker.
Cody Walker plays The King in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, the first production of the 2011-2012 Civic Youth Theatre season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette.
Question: Why did you want to be part of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella?
Cody Walker: I know a lot of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musicals, including Cinderella. It seemed like something interesting to audition for. I also had been wanting to be part of a musical that wasn't part of a camp.
Q: How would you describe The King?
C.W.: In the beginning, the Prince - played by Adam Mengler - is giving a ball and the Queen - played by Annie Furtner - doesn't tell the King about it. The King doesn't want his money to be spent on it. He is under the impression that everyone in the kingdom still loves him, even though they don't. In the end, he just wants his son to be happy.
Q: What will an audience most remember or enjoy about Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella?
C.W.: They will remember the musical numbers. They are fun and upbeat, like "The Prince is Giving a Ball." It opens the show and sets the tone. There are some slow ballads, too.
Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella opens Friday, October 7 and runs through Sunday, October 9 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday shows begin at 2:30 p.m. For more information or to order tickets, call Civic Theatre at 765-423-7529 or visit its website.
