The Staged Reading Series: Ruined on September 13

The 2011-2012 Staged Reading Series at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette begins with Ruined, a Pulitzer Prize-winning script by Lynn Nottage.

Bill Caise directs the cast, which includes Jolivette Anderson-Duoning, Nico Caldwell, Tochukwu (Chu) Chimeze, Twana Harris, Allias Jones, Ashley McElroy, Eva Okonne, Trish Peterson, Vladimir (TJ) Talley, Chris Warren and Demetrius Warren.

From Lynn Nottage, the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of such plays as Fabulation and Intimate Apparel, comes this haunting, probing work about the resilience of the human spirit during times of war. Set in a small mining town in Democratic Republic of Congo, this powerful play follows Mama Nadi, a shrewd businesswoman in a land torn apart by civil war. But is she protecting or profiting by the women she shelters? How far will she go to survive? Can a price be placed on a human life?

The staged reading will be held at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette on Tuesday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. There will be a question-and-answer session between the audience, cast and director immediately following the reading. Audience members are encouraged to pay what they can for admission.
