Announcing auditions for Pride and Prejudice

Director Laura Mecsey has announced auditions for Pride and Prejudice, the third production of the 2011-2012 Civic Youth Theatre season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette.

Auditions will be held Sunday, February 5 from 2-4 p.m., and Monday, February 6 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Civic Theatre office at 313 N. 5th Street in downtown Lafayette.

Those auditioning are asked to arrive at the start of the audition time and remain for the full two hours. They will be asked to prepare a 1-minute monologue tailored to the character they're auditioning to play.

The director seeks several actors between the ages of 13 and 18. The director also seeks a stage manager/assistant director and crew members for the production.

Finding a husband is hardly Elizabeth Bennet's most urgent priority; but with four sisters, an overzealous match-making mother, and a string of unsuitable suitors, it's difficult to escape the subject. When the independent-minded Elizabeth meets the handsome but enigmatic Mr. Darcy, she is determined not to let her feelings triumph over her own good sense -- but the truth turns out to be slipperier than it seems. In a society where subtle snubs and deceit proliferate, is it possible for Elizabeth and Darcy to look beyond his pride and her prejudice, and to make the best match of all?

Pride and Prejudice will open Friday, March 30 and run through Sunday, April 1 in the historic Monon Depot Theatre. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday performances begin at 2:30 p.m.
