In the Wings: Red Hot and Cole. Meet Tim Devery.

Tim Devery plays Moss Hart and Sam Katz in Red Hot and Cole, the fourth show of the 2011-2012 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The book is by James Bianchi, Muriel McAuley and Randy Strawderman; the music and lyrics are by Cole Porter.

Question: Why did you audition for Red Hot and Cole?
Tim Devery: I'm a fan of musicals.

Q: Who were Moss Hart and Sam Katz?
T.D.: Moss Hart was a writer who frequently collaborated with George S. Kaufman, including the plays You Can't Take It With You and The Man Who Came to Dinner. Sam Katz produced at least one of Cole Porter's shows.

Q: What is your favorite Cole Porter song?
T.D.: I'll be frank. Most of my Cole Porter knowledge comes from the show Anything Goes, which I'm not very fond of. But I actually like the song "The Physician." It's so crass. It's not in Red Hot and Cole. It describes different parts of the anatomy, and it's hilarious. I understand why people don't like it because it doesn't fit anywhere, but it's delicious.

Red Hot and Cole opens Friday, March 2 and runs three consecutive weekends through Sunday, March 18 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette.

Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday shows begin at 2:30 p.m. For more information about the show or to order tickets, call 765-423-PLAY (7529) or visit Civic Theatre's website.
