In the Wings: Pride and Prejudice. Meet Sarah Weaver.

Sarah Weaver plays Jane Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, the third show of the 2011-2012 Civic Youth Theatre season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by Jon Jory based on the novel by Jane Austen.

Question: Why did you audition for Pride and Prejudice? Did you know the novel before you auditioned?
Sarah Weaver: I didn't read the book, but I've read synopses of it. I auditioned because it's a different type of material than I'm used to; I like doing musicals.

Q: How would you describe Jane?
S.W.: Jane is a Cinderella character: she's very sweet, she wants the best for everyone. She's definitely a "glass-half-full" type of person.

Q: What's fun about playing Jane?
S.W.: She's upbeat and happy for everybody. It's really nice to play someone who has a positive outlook on everything.

Q: What do you think an audience will enjoy most about the show?
S.W.: The humor. It reminds me of a romantic comedy, only in the 1800s. I think it's humorous to see the same sort of issues but set in a different time period.

Q: Do you believe in love at first sight?
S.W.: I do. I'm a hopeless romantic.

Pride and Prejudice opens Friday, March 30 and runs through Sunday, April 1 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette.

Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday shows begin at 2:30 p.m. For more information about the show or to order tickets, call 765-423-PLAY (7529) or visit Civic Theatre's website.
