In the Wings: Young Directors Project – Jumping. Meet Ariel Laukins.

Ariel Laukins plays Denise in Jumping, one of the shows in Young Directors Project, the fourth and final production of the 2011-2012 Civic Youth Theatre season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by William Borden.

Question: Why did you audition for Young Directors Project?
Ariel Laukins: I knew Cody Walker was going to be one of the directors, and he and I are good friends.

Q: How would you describe Denise?
A.L.: She's sort of obnoxious. She's just talking, but she's not trying to talk with Jerry. She's upset for one reason or another, and she wants to make herself feel better by talking.

Q: Do you have any interest in directing?
A.L.: I think it would be interesting, but I'd probably get really annoyed with the actors so that might not be the best idea.

Q: What do you think an audience will most enjoy about the show?
A.L.: The characters are completely ridiculous, and that's what makes them lovable and relatable.

Young Directors Project opens Friday, April 20 and runs through Sunday, April 22 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette.

Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday shows begin at 2:30 p.m. For more information about the show or to order tickets, call 765-423-PLAY (7529) or visit Civic Theatre's website.
