Mikel Hudson plays Harry the Horse in Guys and Dolls, the first of two summer productions from Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette in 2012. The music and lyrics are by Frank Loesser; the book is by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. Next year Mikel will be a sophomore at McCutcheon High School.
Question: Why did you want to be part of Guys and Dolls?
Mikel Hudson: I didn't want to have a lazy summer. I also enjoyed being involved in Annie Jr. and The Music Man Jr.
Q: What is it like having to create a show in such a short amount of time?
M.H.: It's really hectic. You've got to know "this and this and this" in a few hours. Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's not.
Q: In real life, are you more like a Save-a-Soul person, or are you a gangster?
M.H.: I'd be a gangster. I wouldn't want to kill anyone, though.
Guys and Dolls will run July 20 and 21 at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater Park, 4449 State Road 43 North, West Lafayette. The shows begin at 7:30 p.m.
