Aaron Newton plays Justin in The Fox on the Fairway, the fourth show of the 2012-2013 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The script is by Ken Ludwig.
Question: Who is Justin? What is he like?
Aaron Newton: Justin is a young, timid, naïve character. He’s in love with Louise, and very eager to prove himself to Mr. Bingham. He thinks he knows more than he does.
Q: What is fun about playing a character like Justin?
A.N.: It’s really fun to bring out this clueless, baffled idiot kind of character that I usually don’t get to play.
Q: What will an audience enjoy about The Fox on the Fairway?
A.N.: For the gentlemen, there is some gentlemanly humor. Because the show is about golf and golf balls, there are some obvious jokes. There also are witty comments and subtle humor. The interaction of the characters also is enjoyable.
Q: Of all the actors in the cast, including you, who would have a tantrum on the golf course after missing an easy putt?
A.N.: Me. I’m notoriously bad at golf, and I tend to miss putts even at the Putt-Putt Golf Course. I get a little bit upset, so I have to go with myself.
