In the Wings: Company. Meet Amy Long.

Amy Long plays Amy in Company, the fifth and final production in the 2012-2013 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim. The book is by George Furth.

Question: Why did you try out for the show?
Amy Long: The left side of my brain, the logical side, said, "Amy, you haven't done a musical since high school. Don't do it." The right side of my brain, the fun-loving, creative side, said, "Amy, you've always wanted to do another musical." The right side won out. The draw was that I've had a total blast this season performing in other shows, challenging myself, making new friends. Why stop?

Q: Who is Amy? What does Bobby get from his friendship with her and Paul, played by Kyle Borcz?
A.L.: Amy is a neurotic, dramatic, over-the-top bride-to-be with a serious case of wedding day jitters. Amy tells Bobby that, if he's looking for a lifelong partner, he's got to stop looking for just some "body" to fill the role; he'll find the right fit with his best friend - someone who brings out the best in him. Amy tells him that, and then she finally realizes how her advice applies to her own life.

Q: What will an audience enjoy about Company?
A.L.: Is it cliche to say that there's something for everyone in Company? Anyone who's ever been in a relationship, who's ever loved and who has been loved, will see a little bit of themselves in this show.

Q: What is your favorite Stephen Sondheim song?
A.L.: One of my favorite Stephen Sondheim songs is "Not While I'm Around" from Sweeney Todd. In Company, I cry every time Timothy Devery, who plays Bobby, sings "Marry Me a Little." It's simply beautiful.

Company opens Friday, May 3 and runs through Saturday, May 18 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday shows are at 2:30 p.m.
