In the Wings: Company. Meet Cory Guthrie.

Cory Guthrie plays David in Company, the fifth and final production of the 2012-2013 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. The music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim. The book is by George Furth.

Question: Why did you audition for the show?
Cory Guthrie: One of my friends told me I should audition. I just moved into town from Washington, D.C. I went to Purdue, so I'm familiar with the area.

Q: Who is David, and what does Bobby get from his friendship with him and Jenny, played by Candie Borcz?
C.G.: David and Jenny have a standard relationship. David is scared that Jenny will leave him because that's been his experience in life. Jenny is from a Midwest town and a strong personality and oblivious to David's fear.

Q: What will an audience enjoy about Company?
C.G.: The music, which is awesome.

Q: What is your favorite Stephen Sondheim song?
C.G.: I have limited exposure to Sondheim songs, at least that I know of. But "Running Away" from Into the Woods is one of my favorites.

Company opens Friday, May 3 and runs through Saturday, May 18 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday shows are at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for youth age 18 and under. Rush tickets may be available before each performance for $8 to students with a valid college or high school I.D.
