The third production of the 2013-2014 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette will be Bus Stop, directed by Steve Martin. It was written by William Inge.
Performances will be Friday, January 17 through Saturday, February 1 in the historic Monon Depot Theatre at 320 N. 5th Street - the corner of 5th Street and North Street - in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday performances will begin at 2:30 p.m.
In the middle of a howling snowstorm, a bus out of Kansas City pulls up at a cheerful roadside diner. All roads are blocked, and four or five weary travelers are going to have to hole up until morning. Cherie, a nightclub chanteuse, is the passenger with the most to worry about. She’s been pursued and kidnapped by a twenty-one-year-old cowboy with a ranch and romantic methods of a headstrong bull. Other stories abound in this classic “slice of life” play that is a romantic and funny portrayal of Midwestern life, mid-twentieth century.
