In the Wings: Antigone. Meet Ashlyn Short.

Ashlyn Short plays a Chorus member in Antigone, the first Civic Youth Theatre production in the 2013-2014 season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. David Felshuh adapted the script from the original by Sophocles.

Question: Why did you audition for Antigone?
Ashlyn Short: I'm usually in the light, happy plays. I decided to do something more tragic.

Q: What does the Chorus do as a group?
A.S.: We are the consciousness of Creon, Antigone and the main characters. They depend on us to bring the story together.

Q: Who is your favorite character from Greek mythology or literature?
A.S.: Zeus is kind of the big guy, but Athena is the goddess of wisdom. I've got to say Athena.

Antigone opens Friday, September 27 and runs through Sunday, September 29 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre, 320 N. 5th Street, at the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday show begins at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth age 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased by calling 765-423-7529 or visiting http://lafayettecivic.tix.com
