We're previewing the 2014-2015 season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette this week. We're looking now at the holiday show.
The 2014-2015 holiday show will be A Christmas Story, The Musical, music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, book by Joseph Robinette based on the 1983 motion picture of the same name and the book "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash" by Jean Shepherd.
Set in the 1940s in the fictional town of Homan, Indiana, the musical follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his quest for the Holy Grail of Christmas gifts: an Official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. Rebuffed at every turn with a similar echoing response, Ralphie plots numerous schemes to achieve his desperate desire for the coveted BB gun. All the iconic scenes from the movie are here: Ralphie's friend, Flick, getting his tongue stuck to the flagpole; his brother, Randy, getting dressed in his snowsuit; the bullies, Farkus and Dill; the leg lamp award; the bunny suit; the Chinese restaurant; Christmas dinner and many others.
The show will run Dec. 12-14 in the Long Center for the Performing Arts at 111 N. 6th Street in downtown Lafayette. The Friday and Saturday shows will be at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday show will be at 2:30 p.m.
The mission of Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette is to enhance the artistic and cultural environment of Greater Lafayette through theatrical productions and educational opportunities.
