Previewing the 2014-2015 MainStage season: "The Children's Hour," Jan. 16-31, 2015

We're previewing the 2014-2015 season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette this week. We're looking now at the MainStage season.

The third production in the 2014-2015 MainStage season will be The Children's Hour by Lillian Hellman. It is a full-length drama with a cast of two men and twelve women.

One of the great successes of this distinguished writer. A serious and adult play about two women who run a school for girls. After a malicious youngster starts a rumor about the two women, the rumor soon turns to scandal. As the young girl comes to understand the power she wields, she sticks by her story, which precipitates tragedy for the women. It is later discovered that the gossip was pure invention, but it is too late. Irreparable damage has been done.

The show will run Jan. 16-31 in the historic Monon Depot Theatre at 320 N. 5th Street in downtown Lafayette – the corner of 5th Street and North Street. The Friday and Saturday shows will be at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday shows will be at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for youth. For more information, call 765-423-7529.

The mission of Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette is to enhance the artistic and cultural environment of Greater Lafayette through theatrical productions and educational opportunities.
