We're previewing the 2014-2015 season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette this week. We're looking now at the Staged Reading series.
The second staged reading in the 2014-2015 season will be 8 by Dustin Lance Black. It is a full-length drama with a cast of thirteen men, four women, and two boys.
Uncover the truth about marriage for gay and lesbian Americans. 8 - a new play by Academy-award winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar) - demystifies the debate around marriage equality by chronicling the landmark trial of Perry v. Schwarzenegger (now Hollingsworth v. Perry). Using the actual court transcripts from the landmark federal trial of California's Prop. 8 and first-hand interviews, 8 shows both sides of the debate.
The staged reading will be Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the historic Monon Depot Theatre at 320 N. 5th Street in downtown Lafayette – the corner of 5th Street and North Street.
Staged readings are Pay What You Can events. Tickets are available the night of the reading at the box office, and a question-and-answer session between the audience, cast and director immediately follow each performance. For more information, call 765-423-7529.
