Harry Brown plays Dr. Thomas Kelly as an old man in Answers from Ashes, one of seven plays that are part of the second annual 10-Minute Play Festival at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette. It was written by Shane Guenin.
Question: What does Dr. Thomas Kelly do at the beginning of the play?
Harry Brown: He is telling a story to the world. It's something that's been part of him for a very long time. It's something very, very disturbing.
Q: What is a challenge or something exciting about acting in a 10-minute play?
H.B.: Developing a character. You have very little time and very few lines to establish the character and convey it to the audience. You have to do it very, very quickly. It's with voice, but I think a 10-minute play puts a premium on actions and mannerisms.
Q: Fill in the blank: "In the time it takes me to _____, I could watch a 10-minute play."
H.B.: "think of an answer to this question"
The second annual 10-Minute Play Festival will be Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the historic Monon Depot Theatre, 320 N. 5th Street – the corner of 5th Street and North Street in downtown Lafayette. All 7 plays will be performed both nights.
The festival is a Pay What You Can event, and general admission tickets will be available at the box office immediately before the event begins.
