In the Wings: The Importance of Being Earnest. Meet Timothy Lewis.

Timothy Lewis plays Merriman in Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest," the first show in the 2014-2015 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette.

"The Importance of Being Earnest" will run Friday, Aug. 29 through Saturday, Sept. 13 at the historic Monon Depot Theatre, 320 N. 5th Street in downtown Lafayette – the corner of 5th Street and North Street.

Question: Who is Merriman?
Timothy Lewis: Merriman is the head butler at Jack's estate. He is a no-nonsense butler and is very protective of Cecily.

Question: What is funny about the play?
T.L.: The relationships. Oscar Wilde knew a lot about humanity, how people interact and social status.

Question: This play is also a romance. What do you find romantic?
T.L.: Being able to spend time at home with family to relax.
