Director Steven Koehler has announced auditions for "A Christmas Story, the Musical," the holiday show of the 2014-2015 season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette.
Set in the 1940s in the fictional town of Homan, Indiana, the musical follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his quest for the Holy Grail of Christmas gifts: an Official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. Rebuffed at every turn with a similar echoing response, Ralphie plots numerous schemes to achieve his desperate desire for the coveted BB gun. All the iconic scenes from the movie are here: Ralphie's friend, Flick, getting his tongue stuck to the flagpole; his brother, Randy, getting dressed in his snowsuit; the bullies, Farkus and Dill; the leg lamp award; the bunny suit; the Chinese restaurant; Christmas dinner and many others.
Auditions will be Saturday, October 4 from 1-4 p.m. and Sunday, October 5 from 1-4 p.m. at Tippecanoe Arts Federation, 638 North Street in downtown Lafayette. There are several roles for children and adults.
Auditions are by appointment only. Those auditioning will be asked to sign up for a five-minute appointment. Call 765-423-7529 to make an appointment.
They are to sing a Broadway style song, at least 16 bars, no more than a verse and a chorus. They may also be asked to match pitch. Please bring sheet music or CD with accompaniment, and an accompanist will be provided.
Those auditioning will also be asked to stay until the end of the hour for a dance audition, please dress appropriately. There are some non-singing roles, a dance chorus will be considered as well as a vocal chorus.
Performances will be December 12-14 at Long Center for the Performing Arts. There will be two performances on Saturday, December 13.
