Announcing auditions: The Children's Hour

Director Aaron Newton has announced auditions for Lillian Hellman's The Children Hour, the third show in the 2014-2015 MainStage season at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette.

The Children's Hour is a serious and adult play about two women who run a school for girls. After a malicious youngster starts a rumor about the two women, the rumor soon turns to scandal. As the young girl comes to understand the power she wields, she sticks by her story, which precipitates tragedy for the women. It is later discovered that the gossip was pure invention, but it is too late. Irreparable damage has been done.

Aaron seeks to cast five adult women, seven girls ages 12-14, one adult male, and one boy age 12-14. Everyone auditioning is asked to prepare a one-minute monologue. They also may be asked to read from the script, which is available at Civic Theatre's office in downtown Lafayette for check out.

Auditions are 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 16 and Monday, November 17 at Civic Theatre, 320 N. 5th Street in downtown Lafayette. Auditions for the young actors begin at 6:30 p.m., by appointment. Auditions for adults begin at 7:30 p.m., but no appointment is necessary. Everyone is asked to stay until 8:30 p.m. Audition appointments for young actors can be made by calling 765-423-7529.

Callbacks will be Tuesday, November 18 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
