Question: Who is Jean? What is he like?
Bob Mindrum: Jean is a radio personality. He is a romantic and has a lot of nostalgia about his childhood. That's the essence of this show: his feelings and childhood memories of Christmas.
Q: Did you know the movie before you auditioned?
B.M.: Yes. A Christmas Story and It's a Wonderful Life are two holiday staples in my life. I think most people can relate to this show. The music is very nice, and there are some complicated harmonies that bring a different sound that people might not expect. It's got a lot of entertainment value.
Q: What is the theme of the show?
B.M.: There are a lot of Romantic visions of what Christmas is, sacred or not. The family in this show is dysfunctional, but there's still love and Christmas.
Q: What is your favorite part of the show?
B.M.: I like everything involving the BB gun. Most of us had a favorite Christmas present. I remember getting my first BB gun, and it was the last present hidden behind a counter. I also enjoy the parts with the Old Man and his histrionics.
Q: What was the one Christmas gift you wanted as much as Ralphie wants the BB gun?
B.M.: It was a bow-and-arrow set. I got it. Parents are good at figuring that out, and they like to surprise their kids like the parents in this show do.
