Announcing the world premiere in the 2015-2016 staged reading series: JS Green's "The Kegger"

During the staged reading series at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette, at least one script by a local playwright is selected for a world premiere. The script chosen for the 2015-2016 season is The Kegger by JS Green.

In The Kegger, Charley Jennings works at a job he hates. His family life veers from crazy to just depressing. His only anchor is his best friend, Loober, who once saved Charley's life. Now, Loober has gotten in a jam with a fast-talking con man and Charley must save him. But things don’t work out as planned.

What is your favorite word? Christmas. It represents faith and fun and family and joy. And turkey dinner with all the fixings





What is your least favorite word? swat this is recent, btw. It comes out squat every time. I literally can't say it aloud.


What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? Music is my constant resource for creativity ,  spirituality ,  and emotional  support
 

What turns you off? Lying is a huge turn off. Be real or don't  bother to hang out with  me. It's disrespectful  and  I  have  a  zero  tolerance  for it.


What is your favorite curse word/phrase? (edited for this blog) Shoot because it's the only one I ever heard my dad  say so it can't be so awful

What sound or noise do you love? ocean waves are a favorite sound. God's music, I suppose.
 

What sound or noise do you hate? Hate the sound of people  who  chew food open mouthed. Worse than fingernails down a chalkboard in my opinion.


What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? I should have been a flight attendant  when I was young and single. Today  I would love to be an interior  designer

What profession would you not like to do? Would never want to be a judge.


If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? I hope God greets me with, "Welcome. You did okay  down there."  I think that would  be  more than  I deserve.

What turns you off? Elitism and by hearing that those less fortunate are treated or spoken about poorly.

What sound or noise do you love? my children's laughter

What sound or noise do you hate? Anything loud, out of place, and repetitive

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Flight attendant

What profession would you not like to do? Toilet cleaning profession, but I'm grateful to those who do it!

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? When I (hopefully) get to heaven, I would like God to say, "Well done, child. Come see those who have gone before you, but first, here is a tray of the finest chocolates!"

Soliciting original script submissions for the 2015-2016 Staged Reading series

The committee preparing the 2015-2016 Staged Reading series at Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette is soliciting submissions for original, previously unproduced scripts by local playwrights.

Here are the submission guidelines.

* Deadline for submissions: October 2, 2015.

* Response date: No later than December 4, 2015.

* Playwrights must have their primary residence in the 14-county area served by the Tippecanoe Arts Federation: Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Fountain, Howard, Jasper, Montgomery, Newton, Pulaski, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Warren and White.

* Civic Theatre prefers a full script submission.

* Civic Theatre will accept a query/synopsis along with a 5-page dialogue sample.

* Civic Theatre prefers electronic submissions, which may be sent to steve@lafayettecivic.org

* Mailed submissions must be sent to:

Attn: Staged Reading Committee

Lafayette, IN  47901

* All submissions must include a title page with the play's title, author's name and contact information. The author's name should not appear anywhere on the script.

* Submissions sent via mail must include a self-addressed stamped envelope or self-addressed stamped postcard.

* There is no cost to submit.

* Probability of being selected: At least one original script per year is included in the Staged Reading series out of the entire pool of submissions.

* Contract: There are no royalties paid at this time.

* Cast size: Ten or fewer actors are preferred.

* Length: Scripts may be either one-act or full length.

* Content: There are no restrictions on content.

In the eight years the Staged Reading Series has been part of the Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette season, at least one script has been an original, previously unproduced script written by a local playwright.
